The price of a 19-kilogram commercial LPG cylinder has been hiked by Rs. 993, averaging around Rs. 3000 in many cities. The price of domestic cylinders, however, remain unchanged. Petrol and diesel rates have also remained steady, as the government seeks to shield household consumers from rising fuel costs.
The increase in commercial cylinder prices is expected to impact restaurants, hotels and small businesses, many of which rely heavily on LPG. Alongside the price changes, the government has introduced new LPG regulations effective from today. Under the new rules, households with piped natural gas connections are no longer allowed to hold domestic LPG connections.
Other changes, for consumers of Indane, Bharat Gas and HP Gas, include stricter booking intervals and the introduction of OTP-based delivery systems. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has increased the booking interval from 21 to 25 days in urban areas and up to 45 days in rural areas. Consumers are also required to complete mandatory KYC updates. Officials say these measures are part of a broader overhaul to improve efficiency and transparency in the LPG distribution system.
